Two years ago, Paul Woodbury a young genealogist from Provo, Utah was awarded the Suzanne Winsor Freeman Student Genealogy Grant at the Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree. At the 2016 annual conference, Paul, now a professional genetic genealogist will be the featured speaker at the SCGS Scholarship Breakfast sponsored by Legacy Tree Genealogists, professional genealogists and research services.
Paul will share his personal genealogical journeys and travels and share ideas to engage future generations of genealogists in “Preparing Good Ground: Fostering Genealogical Interest for Coming Generations” at the Sunday morning breakfast event.
The annual Jamboree Scholarship Breakfast is an opportunity to support young genealogists and honor the newest recipient of the Student Genealogy Grant and Jamboree Scholarship as he or she is presented with the $500 cash award and Jamboree scholarship.
Paul is a recent graduate of Brigham Young University where he majored in Genetics and Family History. He pursues his passion for genetic genealogy as a DNA specialist working with Legacy Tree Genealogists and is a frequent and popular speaker at genealogy conferences and institutes. In addition to DNA topics, Paul also presents on French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Scandinavian research subjects.
Since 2010, five students from throughout the United States have received the award: Elyse Doerflinger (Lomita, California), A.C. Ivory (Salt Lake City, Utah), Anthony Ray (Palmdale, California), Michael Savoca (Toms River, New Jersey), and Paul Woodbury (Provo, Utah).
The Student Grant was established in 2010 by family and friends in memory of Suzanne Winsor Freeman, family historian and life-long volunteer, and an enthusiastic annual attendee at the SCGS Jamboree. The award includes a $500 cash grant and full registration to the 2016 SCGS Jamboree.
Applications for the student award will be accepted through midnight March 20, 2016. Students between the ages of 18 and 23 are eligible to apply. More information is available at the Student Genealogy Grant Page.
